The Triangle Inequality

I need you to copy this sentence into your notes:

**THE SUM OF THE TWO SMALL SIDES IS GREATER THAN THE BIG SIDE**

That's it!  So, can a triangle have sides of length 8, 9, and 15?  Yes, because 8 + 9 > 15.  Can a triangle have sides of length 8, 9 and 17?  No, because 8 + 9 = 17, it's not GREATER THAN 17.
